Redondo Beach (M. Polacek)
When you go to “L.A.” everyone knows you go to the beach. I grew up in Hawthorne, CA which happens to the hometown of the Beach Boys. One of my very best friends, Jimmy and I used to ride our bikes, then when we got older, borrow his brother’s VW bug, to cruise down Rosecrans to El Porto, Manhattan, Hermosa or Redondo. I love the line that I heard Brenda B once say, “pier rats.” So I lifted it.
The original title was Redondo Beach, Never LA! But I shortened.
Lyrics
Redondo Beach, Never L.A.!
Sweet mornings; sweet summers
Sweet songs that take up every thought of the day
Golden sunsets at King Harbor
Good vibrations every time that I turn around
Redondo Beach NOT LA
Do you remember the night that we left our love to stay
I’ll never be the same
Not since I left the most beautiful, beautify woman to stay
Louie Louie, boogie boardin
Wine coolers at any ole time of the day
Sand castles and first true loves
Broken hearts that got washed away with every new wave
Redondo Beach NOT LA
I remember the night that we left our childhood to stay
I’ll never be the same
Making out on the sand and then making out in the waves
STEEL DRUM SOLO
We’ll get the keys and take Jimmy’s Vdub
We’ll get some chicks and give them a back rum
Manhattan or Hermosa or Redondo Beach
Manhattan or Hermosa or Redondo Beach
Manhattan or Hermosa or Redondo Beach
But NEVER L.A.!
Bon fires, sand dancin’
Never was rich enough to make up to Playa del Rey
Pier Rats, touching smiles
Stern promises to live in Redondo Beach
But NEVER L.A.!
