Sweetest Soul (M. Polacek)
After my mom passed away, we were walking down the aisle at St. Joseph’s church and my dad grabbed my hand. I don’t recall a time he even hugged me, but now he could not make that simple walk to the front of the church without someone sharing his burden. He was physically broken from being emotionally ruptured. My mom was a sweet soul, and I am convinced, the very sweetest.
Lyrics
Sweetest Soul
Sweet’s the smell of fresh turned sod, and the golden rod still in your hair
You have lain so patiently, so quietly all alone
And you are the loveliest soul I’ve known.
You are the sweetest soul I’ve ever known
And I love you
You are the loveliest soul I’ve known,
You are the only soul my soul has ever known
And I love you
Yonder breaks the dawn’s early morn, with carved rowed stones over your head
Blue birds sing, of a sweet, sweet lover’s spring that still echoes in my soul
And you are the loveliest soul I’ve known
You are the sweetest soul I’ve ever known
And I love you
You are the loveliest soul I’ve known,
You are the only soul my soul has ever known
And I love you
At last, my love, we’re all alone, all alone, all alone
At last my love we’re all alone all alone, at last
And you are the loveliest soul I’ve known.
You are the sweetest soul I’ve ever known
And I love you
You are the loveliest soul I’ve known,
You are the only soul my soul has ever known
And I’ll die loving you
